Phoenix’s Hawes Trail System Master Plan Project is Seeking Public Comment Until March 23!

With increased use in recent years, the area has surpassed 12 miles of user-created “social” trails. While the Forest Service is supportive of volunteer trail maintenance, they cannot authorize work on user-built trails.

This leaves a vast portion of the network subject to poor erosion control and other general damage. There are also growing concerns around traffic, parking, and unauthorized construction of dirt ramps and wooden structures.

In order to address these concerns and plan for the future of the area, the Forest Service has drafted the Hawes Trail System Master Development Plan and is seeking public comment until March 23, 2020. You can view the Master Development Plan document here: at the Forest Service’s site and provide feedback to Kelly Finley, Dispersed Recreation Program Manager, Mesa Ranger District at Email: directly
