Main St. Brewing is raising a glass to a true legend by collaborating on a beer with mountain biking icon Paul Brodie and hosting a Vintage Mountain Bike Show and Shine at the Mount Pleasant Brewery (261 East 7th Avenue) on Saturday, May 4…
Taking place from noon to 4 p.m., the show and shine will mark the official release of a Paul’s Workshop Pacific Ale collaboration between Brodie and Main St. Head Brewer and 2024 Canadian Brewers Award winner for Young Brewer of the Year Azlan Graves and welcome the biking community to an event that will showcase custom frames and bikes from Brodie’s illustrious 40-year career as a designer and builder.
Brodie built his first steel bicycle frame in Vancouver in 1984 and played a key role in the development of some of the original mountain bike brands before running his eponymous bike company for 15 years. Over his 40-year career, Brodie has played a part in fabricating more than 4,200 bicycle frames, was inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 2005 and taught his own successful Framebuilding 101 class until 2020.
Last year, Brodie endured months of hospitalization and chemotherapy after a cancer diagnosis but has since made a full recovery and is now back in fine fettle in his Mount Pleasant workshop creating his popular YouTube videos that detail how to build everything from custom bicycles to bass guitars.
