The Ken Burton trail has been undergoing extensive work here in Los Angeles all winter long with MWBA and CORBA logging in countless hours, along with the help of over 90 volunteers. While Upper Ken Burton is open, there’s still work to be done, in terms of linking Lower Ken Burton to Switzer PA, but for now, it’s open down to the Arroyo.
Here’s the word fom @SteverMesserMTB
“The official ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand reopening of the trail is on May 1st at the @mwbaorg Pancake Breakfast on May 1st. But the trail is finished and nobody will mind if people help pack down the loose dirt before May 1st!”
Yesterday, Sean and I rode from our homes to Fern Truck Trail, up to Upper Brown and down Upper Ken Burton to the Arroyo and back. For me, leaving from Golden Saddle, it was 45 miles and 3,666′ elevation.
Ken Burton makes for a great CX loop with lots of tight switchbacks and places where you can really open it up. While many will chose to ride mountain bikes, don’t hesitate to try it out on a ‘cross bike.
While the dirt is being packed, please be respectful. Go easy on the corners and please don’t skid the turns!
Many thanks to CORBA and MWBA for their hard work and we’ll see you May 1st for the Pancake Breakfast!
