Tom Ritchey is Selling Fillet Brazed Bullmoose Bars and Forks for Vintage Ritchey MTB Owners

While John was checking in with Ritchey before Sea Otter, he got a sneak peek at the new Tom Ritchey-built Bullmoose bars and bi-plane forks Tom was working on for owners of these original 1980 Ritchey Mountain Bikes. Tom said he was inspired by both John’s and David Harrison’s restoration work on these non-serial 1980 frames that were sold without Bullmoose bars or forks.

Well, the news is live today that Tom Ritchey will be debuting this collection in person at MADE, so let’s check out the full 411 below!

Ultralight Hacks: Trailbrush Toothbrush Attaches to a Titanium Spoon

Raise your hand if you’ve ever cut down a toothbrush to save size or weight on a camping trip. Be it backpacking or a bike tour, this common hack was popularized by lore in these circles and passed down from lightweight traveler to newcomer for decades. Well, the Trailbrush ($7.95) ups the weight weenie ante. It pops into the handle of a Toaks titanium long-handle spoon, short-handle spoon, spork, or fork, multi-purposing the spoon into a toothbrush. Neat. They’ll even throw in a teeny airline tube of Colgate for ya.

Check it out, in stock at Zpacks.

Rene Herse Needle Bearing Headsets

Rene Herse Needle Bearing Headsets

Rene Herse Cycles is introducing two new 1″ threaded headsets. Both share needle bearings that are super light, last as long as your bike (or longer) and greatly reduce the likelihood of shimmy. The Rinko headset (left) has retainers to keep the bearings inside when you remove the fork as you pack your bike for travel. The Low-Stack headset (right) is designed to work as a replacement even on bikes with very short steerer tubes, with a stack height of just 38 mm. Both are superlight (119 g and 96 g, respectively). They are polished, not anodized, so they conduct electricity in case you use your frame and fork as the return path for your generator-powered lighting system. Both are available now from Rene Herse.

Retail pricing: $209 (Rinko headset) $189 (Low Stack headset)

Spurcycle Mirrors

Spurcycle, makers of the best bells on the market, just released four models of cycling mirrors. There are two for drop bars ($30) (pictured) in R35 (millimeter) and R50 sizes and two for flat bars ($34) in C50 and C70 sizes. Mirrors help cyclists see what’s behind them without having to crane their necks, which can cause their bikes to veer. Check out the full lineup at Spurcycle.
