Garbaruk Enduro Crankset is Two-Piece and Weighs 461 grams

Garbaruk, manufacturers of drivetrain components, just unveiled a two-piece, 461-gram Enduro crankset. To cut down on weight, these cranks are thick where they need to be and light where they can be. Thanks to the hollow body design the engineers were able to make it stronger in the most important areas while keeping it light. These cranks are customizable with eight color options for the crankarm, eight color options for the self-extractor nut and bolts, and eight color options for the chainring creating 512 possible color combinations.

Reroutes: In Search of The Qhapaq Ñan

Translated from Quechua, the ‘Royal Road’ once united all Andean communities from Colombia to Chile in an intricate road system of more than 30,000 km that in 2014 became an UNESCO World Heritage site. Constructed by the Incas over several centuries and partly based on pre-Inca infrastructure, this extraordinary network through one of the world’s most extreme geographical terrains linked the snow-capped peaks of the Andes – at an altitude of more than 6,000 m – to the coast, running through hot rainforests, fertile valleys, and absolute deserts.

It reached its maximum expansion in the 15th century when it spread across the length and breadth of the Andes. Leonardo Brasil (@leobrasil.photo) and Adam Pawlikiewicz Mesa (@adamonthego) traversed by bike from La Paz, Bolivia to Cusco, Peru highlighting the rich history and diverse culture of this Andean region documenting through both photo and video. Our full film will be launched later this year showcasing this wild adventure full of mishaps, reroutes due to food shortages, days where water was inaccessible, alpaca killings, a visit to the highest mining settlement in the world, and much more.

Website Improvement: Pinch + Zoom is Live

Our brave programmer, Ian Register, just rolled out the pinch+zoom feature. You might think this was an easy fix, but Ian’s been in the Javascript weeds for some time with this bug. Well, he finally implemented the update today after scrubbing out six Javascript files. Give it a go, and if you find bugs, please drop a comment with your operating system and device!

Hannah Builds Her Chumba Cycles Race Bike

Chumba Cycles sent over a rad video showcasing its Chumba Ultra Race Team athlete Hannah Simon as she builds her bike for the 2024 gravel and bikepacking racing season.

In late December of 2023, Hannah joined Chumba’s production staff as a production assistant. She quickly grew her framebuilding skillset. This year she fabricated her Sendero Titanium MTB and Terlingua Steel gravel bikes.

First, she took on the AMR (Atlas MTN Race) in Morocco with the Sendero, coming in 3rd place over the 1300km race. Next up was Midsouth (3rd SS), the East TX Showdown 400 (1st place), DOOM 400 (2nd), and the inaugural Rule of Three 200. Later this year Hannah will be traveling to Kyrgyzstan to race the 1938km Silk Road Mountain Race!

Special thanks to Chumba ambassador Kody Gibson for editing and producing this video!

Hi, Hannah!

Mica is a Rear Rack for Bikes Without Rack Mounts

Skyler Des Roches created the Mica Rack as a solution for bikes without rear rack mounts for riders who didn’t want the hassle of bikepacking saddle packs. Rather than having a bag swaying and bouncing all over, the Mica Rack allows you to strap dry bag with your straps of choice.  It is not a pannier rack, nor a rack for fully-loading; think of it as a bag support. Let’s check it out below…
