So… what makes a bike pump worth $450? NPR dives into the story on how Silca moved their production to Indianapolis. Listen to the story at NPR and yes, I totally bought one. Ok, I lied, I put it on my credit card.

Is it really worth it? I mean, it’s a pump, but it’s a damn nice pump and it looks great holding down the tiles in my office. Functionality considered, it’s got an impressive amount of machining, akin to a luxury sportswatch and if it means Silca might one day make a $100 USA-made floor pump, I’m all for supporting this industry.

Side note: I’m really enjoying my new photo studio…

I dunno what I like more, the new Mash shop kits, or Garrett’s Cinelli? Especially in this photo. They’re like the yin and yang of bicycle design.

Josh Brede shared his newest video project, entitled Nightfall. Here’s a little background:

““Nightfall” is a speculative commercial that tells the story of a hardworking messenger who depends on his Chrome gear to keep him going. I made this commercial as my senior thesis at Drexel University, to conclude my studies of TV Production. I set out to create a commercial that portrays a brand I love, rely on, and wear every day.
This couldn’t have been possible without the amazing amount of support from my production & post production crew. You guys seriously rule.”

Framebuilder Mitch Pryor teamed up with Brent and Katryn Steelman to join forces on a batch of half tig welded / half brazed randonneur framesets. Over the past few months, I’ve been watching the progress and finally, we’re seeing some of the final frames rolling out of production.

It’s interesting to me seeing the mix of tig and brazed construction. Something you don’t see every day coming from production batches and I for one can say that these bikes are looking superb. See more from the S&P Randonneur Project below and follow along at the Map Flickr.
