As I pointed out in last week’s Merckx Mondays, an eBay seller was liquidating their stock of French-made Adidas Eddy Merckx cycling shoes. I snagged a size 12 and crossed my fingers that they’d fit. Well, today, literally minutes after I published today’s Merckx Mondays, they arrived.
Check out some more photos below.
These aren’t the first Eddy Merckx Adidas cycling shoes I’ve come across. Remember the NOS ones from a while back?
These were made in France in the 80’s and have provisions for traditional-style cleats to be worn with toe clips and straps as well as more modern LOOK-style cleats.
They came with neon yellow cleats and I installed a set of my LOOK Keo cleats on the other shoe. Now I just have to decide which to use? I’ll definately ride with them more if I keep the LOOK cleats on but the classic cleats will work well with my Merckx Pista. Decisions, decisions!
They are nice, that’s for sure. I’d hate to thrash the shit out of them on my daily rides.
Now I’ve got two styles of vintage Merckx shoes, as well as BMW’s homage. Not bad!
