Minneapolis Randomness 01

Yesterday was the first full day in Minneapolis. I’m here for the All-City Championships, along with Kyle from Tracko. We’re both crashing at Jeff from All-City’s house and that means we fall into his routine. His food, his rides, his spots and of course, his house. When you’re staying with someone like Jeff, expect a good time. Check out some narrated photos in the Gallery!

Bandit Cross is Thursday in Minneapolis

Well, I’m in Minneapolis, crashing at Jeff from Bike Jerks / All-City’s house for the All-City Championships and while the main event is Saturday, Bandit Cross is kicking it off on Thursday night. You should really come out if you can. I’m pretty stoked on this event!

The All-City cycles team did a great job at the Seattle NACCCs. Racing for a #partybrand ain’t easy but this group of fine young men and women gave it their all. Christina Peck won the event, not just 1st place women but 1st place overall. Check out some more portraits at the All-City Blog.

Luke’s All-City Space Horse

Reportage

Luke’s All-City Space Horse

Luke is one of my favorite people here in Austin because he’s a road racer that doesn’t appear to be a road racer. Stereotypes aside, Luke enjoys touring probably more than racing, but he still races road and cross. Most of which, end with him on or near the podium.

Living in Austin can overwhelm you sometimes with how competitive the road scene is, but there’s nothing better than leaving town to ride away for the weekend, which is where Luke’s All City Space Horse comes into play. He leaves his Mr. Pink behind (sounds dirty, huh?) and ventures out on this bike, fully loaded and ready to do nothing. Right now, it’s set up with a Pass & Stow front rack and a Freight porteur rack bag. Oh and a super bent Brooks!

It’s unfortunate that Luke broke his wrist during prime camping season here in Austin, so once the temperatures drop a bit, I’ll probably be spending some saddle time with him outside the city. Although I must admit, even though we’ll be touring or camping, I might have a hard time keeping up with this powerhouse…

Check out more photos of this well-seasoned bicycle in the Gallery.

Woody’s All-City Thunderdome Track

Reportage

Woody’s All-City Thunderdome Track

Talk to anyone on the US Olympic track team and they’ll tell you that Woody’s one solid wrench. Not only that, but he holds down the repairs at Golden Saddle Cyclery and coaches in his part time. Bottom line, Woody’s one solid fella who knows his way around the velodrome.

After recovering from a MTB wreck, where he broke his femur and clavicle, Jeff from All-City set him up with an Thunderdome track frame to aid in his physical therapy. With a machine like this, no one would need any more encouragement to hit the boards. This was one of the first track bikes I’ve shot where the tires weren’t allowed to touch the ground, save for the photos…

Rob’s All City Nature Boy

Reportage

Rob’s All City Nature Boy

If I had to guess off the top of my head, which model bike has been featured the most on the site, it’d have to be the All City Nature Boy. Whether racing it singlespeed cross, or commuting or messengering on it, the Nature Boy is the people’s choice and when I saw Rob’s, I had to give it some lens love. Lots of street grime, character, stickers and yes, a top tube pad, make this one of the more unique builds I’ve seen. Technically, this isn’t a singlespeed though. Rob got a bit crafty with his setup. Look closely…

All-City: Introducing the Macho Man Disc

Jeff from All-City has been rambling on and on and on and on and on about how much he loves his new Macho Man Disc. You know what? I totally agree. It’s a good looking bike and everyone’s been really stoked on it. Even the Frost Bike reception was very positive. If you want to read Mr. Frane’s thoughts on it, head to the All-City Blog.

Bottom line: MSRP for the frame is $625, with the complete coming in at $1795.

Recent Roll: Having the Wind Knocked Out of You

Last weekend was the Texas State Cyclocross Championships. I headed out with my Hasselblad and my Leica to shoot some photos. While I’m in the midst of scanning everything, here’s a shot of Chris Lee, post-wreck. His bars got clipped, on a fast downhill section, sending them sideways and Chris, over the bars onto his chest. He sat there, catching his breath and moments later, his tube exploded from the popped bead. Luckily, the dude is ok.

More photos to come.

Kyle’s All-City Nature Boy Zona

Reportage

Kyle’s All-City Nature Boy Zona

There are two people I will always claim as an early inspiration for PiNP: Andy from FYXO and Kyle from Tracko. These two have become some of my best friends and while their blogs both tote track bike-inspired names, it’s clear that they have embraced all forms of cycling over the years.

Kyle in particular has some very stringent requirements when it comes to products he’ll use and bikes he’ll own. He’s a big advocate of made in the USA bicycles, so I was surprised when I saw him riding the All-City Nature Boy Zona, especially when he has a perfectly fine Kelly SS CX. The reasoning? He loves the way it rides and supports All-City’s #partybrand ideals. Or something…

Heal Up Woody

Heal Up Woody

Woody, co-owner of Golden Saddle Cyclery, National track champion, actual US Olympic team mechanic and just all around good dude was recently hurt while mountain biking in Sedona, Arizona.

This post is dedicated to putting a smile on your local shop mechanic’s face. So make sure you tip! It doesn’t even have to be money, the gift of a cupcake, a beer, a coffee, or even a bottle of booze will make even the surliest of mechanics smile. I don’t want to ignite a Reservoir Dogs debate, I just want to let you know that they appreciate it!

In the meantime, let’s send Woody some good wishes. He’s all broken. Read up more at GSC.

Miss ya buddy.
