I have no idea what’s going on here, but I love it! Thanks for this, Surly.

Marc Marino Interview
One of my favorite bike dudes to hang with (and photograph) was recently interviewed over at Optimus Fixed.
“OF: I remember you as a relaxed and interested person with a modest atitude. So do you have any special philosophy in live?
My philosophy in life at its most simple is to do what makes you happy. Take whatever opportunity you have to travel, and further yourself as a human. I’m lucky enough to be able to go all over the world, with people that I love, and get together on a level that pushes us all to our physical limits.”

Ross’ Icarus Light Tourer
Since moving to Austin, Ian from Icarus has been making custom steel frames for my friends. Many of which have requested an all-arounder of sorts from him. Ross already has a pretty deep stable of frames. A Richard Sachs cross, a Speedvagen road and now this Icarus light tourer.
I say light tourer because Ross is a bit of a camping weight weenie. Usually a bivy sack will do the trick on top of his titanium Tubus rack. For the front end, Ross chose a Wound Up fork for its fender mounts and tire clearance. He didn’t want ‘cross clearances’, just room for a 28c and fenders. Right now, he’s got it set up for a few weekend outings and just the other day, he put over 300 miles on it.
Other highlights are the split-paintjob chevrons, precisely finished by Bryan Myers at Fresh Frame and full Campagnolo gruppo. Personally, this is one of my favorite Icarus frames, mostly because it’s so tailored to Ross’ idiosyncratic tastes. Check out more below!

Interviewed: Christopher and Graeme Raeburn on their 2013 Rapha Collection
With the success of the Rapha Raeburn line earlier this year, my friends at the Rapha North America office reached out to me for a different kind of press. I was very impressed with what the first Raeburn line accomplished: high end, performance cycling wear, manufactured in the UK and developed by one of the UK’s most renown fashion designers, Christopher Raeburn.
Check out my interview with Christopher and his brother Graeme Raeburn for Rapha below!

The 2013 PiNP Calendar: December
This is the twelfth layout of the 2013 PiNP Calendar, entitled “The Constant Climb”. The camera and location are noted on the bottom left of the document.
We’ve all read the metaphors eluding to the inherent connection of the bicycle and life’s struggles. You’ll find none of that here. This is the last month of the 2013 PiNP Calendar and I think this photo best represents the goal of the site, without even stating anything. Next year, I’ll be making a rather large change and I hope you’ll stick around for the ride!

Andy Bokanev: A Northwest Primer
Photos by Andy Bokanev
This whole ‘cross thing is getting seriouser and seriouser each year, which is bad! Cross is really fun and that funness should be treated with kid gloves. That said, just because it’s fun, doesn’t mean it isn’t painful and majestic when in the right venue. Like say, the Northwest…. Check out some recent photos shot by Andy Bokanev here!

Brian Vernor: A Rock Lobster Track for Aaron Bradford
Photos by Brian Vernor
The one, of many reasons why I love Rock Lobster Cycles is Paul’s ability to make even a utilitarian, race machine sexy. All in house. Now, I call this utilitarian but in reality, it’s more of a rarity. The tubeset used in this bike was developed by Easton over ten years ago and never went into production. A special tubeset for a special racer: Aaron Bradford. Leave it to Vernor to capture this bike in a way that even makes me look at the way I photograph bicycles! See the rest here.

The 2012 Hatcher Pass Black Cat Prize Bike
David Trimble’s races are nothing short of epic. Especially when it comes to last year’s Hatcher Pass race, which left one participant bound for the hospital in a helicopter after he finished. You can read all about the race here at Bicycling. As promised to first place, this custom Black Cat prize bike was recently finished. Laced with Chris King and sporting a wicked paint job, this bike is ready for the next Hatcher Pass. That is, if there will be a next one! See more photos at Dave Trimble’s Flickr.
