Geekhouse Bikes: Team Cross Bikes

Since my touring bike was stolen, the only bike that I’ve been riding around town is my track bike. I’ve been waiting for my Geekhouse team Mudville for what feels like an eternity. I miss having a bike with gears that I can ride around town and lock up (the Bishop has too much carbon). So when Marty posted this up this morning, my palms got sweaty. I can’t wait!

Let’s see, mine must be the really big one.

If you’ve been following this blog for the past 6 years, you’ve seen me mention Razzle camouflage multiple times and if there is one cross team that could pull off a Razzle-inspired skinsuit during cross season, it’d have to be Geekhouse. Of course it takes an exceptional designer to pull it off, precedents and all. That’s why Marty enlisted Adria Klora to tackle the team kits this year, who also did the Golden Saddle Cyclery kits. ENDO‘s getting to produce some rad stuff this year!

All this Geekhouse razzle is coming to a race near you, just try to not stare directly into them or you’ll crash into a tree.

Serena’s Geekhouse Woodville

Serena’s Geekhouse Woodville

I miss my touring bike, even while taking these photos of Serena’s new Geekhouse Woodville, I was envious. They’re such nice bikes and the boys at Geekhouse do a superb job of modeling each build after their customer’s concerns. When Serena first wanted to get a new bike, we talked about her options. She ended up deciding on a Woodville. 26″ wheels, front, rear racks, fenders, Shimano and bar cons. This is a bike she’ll have her entire life and it’s a beauty. Now she just needs to take it on a maiden tour…

The Geekhouse Boys in Austin

The Geekhouse Boys in Austin

It’s surprising to me how many people have the misconception that “Texas is flat”. While most of the eastern part of the state is indeed, very flat, in Austin, we’re smack dab in the middle of Texas Hill Country. Granted, the highest elevation we have is around 1,500′, there are plenty of good rides with 1:1 ratios of miles to elevation. When Brad and Marty from Geekhouse came into town a few weeks back, they said something to the extent of, “Austin’s pretty flat, right?”.

So, like any good host, I took them on a little hill loop. The weather was just right and not wanting to kill Marty, we took it easy, meandering through ranges and stopping at swimming holes. We ended up doing 40 miles and over 3,000′ before the allure of tacos took over…

Ty’s S&S Geekhouse Mudville Cross

Reportage

Ty’s S&S Geekhouse Mudville Cross

The last time we saw Ty’s Geekhouse Mudville, it was in the middle of cross season. So what do cross racers do in the “off season”? Some choose to ride their cross bikes on singletrack, over fire roads and through the woods. While most people hang them up in their sheds or garages, Ty and a lot of other riders prefer to ride theirs year-round.

When he decided he would try to travel as much as he could this year, he comissioned Megan from Moth Attack to add S&S couplers to this already versatile bike. Gotta love that Geekhouse team livery all torched up! He left with Moi this morning on a week-long trip and the bike was looking great yesterday, so I had to photograph it.

I wish these two dudes the best of luck. Have a blast!

Geekhouse Announces Headquarters Boston

Headquarters Boston is a collective in Boston meant to offer affordable workspace for small, creative companies. Geekhouse will be moving into this massive loft, along with other small time manufacturing companies. Marty has been talking about this for some time now and I’m so stoked for him to see it finally going somewhere. Headquarters Boston has a splash page up and the Geekhouse Flickr has some photos of the space.

The guys are going to be posting more information shortly, so sit tight.

Beautiful Bicycle: Ed’s Geekhouse Rockcity Track

It’s no secret that I really admire Geekhouse‘s work. Hell, some of my favorite Beautiful Bicycles I’ve featured here on the site have come from that workshop in Boston. While Geekhouse’s more recent exposure may be centered around the Mudville cross bikes, I first heard of their work, years back, because of the Rockcity track bikes.

My constant blabbering about their bikes convinced Ed from the Glitch Mob to put a deposit down on a mean, lean street killing machine. Ed’s Rockcity is one of my favorite Geekhouse track bikes. Set up in road-mode, this bad boy has a stoker hood and a front brake. Ed’s out on it daily, hitting the many hills the greater Los Angeles area has to offer.

Beautiful Bicycle: Ty’s Geekhouse Mudville Cross Bike

There are some Beautiful Bicycles floating around Golden Saddle Cyclery in LA. While many are customer’s builds, the guys at the shop have quite the stable. Ty races ‘cross and gets rad on his Geekhouse Mudville. While this is set up in road / off-road mode, come race day, he swaps wheels and shaves off the bottle cages and saddle bag (how rad is that saddle bag by the way?). I took this beaut outside the other day and gave it some lens love.
