In July 2020, a group of five friends had planned an epic tour of Europe, but plans changed. A new tour was cobbled together in a week, and the new destination was set: Scotland. The group would ride the famous North Coast 500, a legendary route along the rugged Scottish coastline, and then onto the Highlands. ‘NORTH COAST’ chronicles the reality of touring through harsh conditions, relentless weather and the challenges faced with a country fresh out of a pandemic lockdown…

Our friends at Restrap are once again organizing their Solstice Century ride. This time around they’re encouraging riders to make the most of the longest days of the year over the Summer Solstice weekend of the 19th and 20th of June. The challenge this year is to ride one 100 mile ride on either day. The ride can be outdoors, indoors, on any terrain, and on any bike, so go nuts!

It’s always exciting to see makers in this industry grow and that’s the case with the UK’s Restrap, which recently moved from a 6,290sqft factory to 12,250sqft, doubling their production space. Check out their press release below, along with more photos of their new digs.

Restrap pulled together a quick video showcasing some tips to prepare for winter touring…

Restrap, the UK-based cycling portage company, has just updated their custom frame bags. Their full-frame bag comes standard with one (right side/drive side) large compartment with an internal velcro divider (optional) and a long slender document pocket (left side/non-drive side). Each bag is made with YKK zips, textured nylon outer, and VX21 fabrics. Included in all sizes is a slot for camelback/dynamo positioned on the top of the bag. While Restrap markets their new Adventure Musette as an accessory bag for bicycle touring, we can’t help but note that packable bags like this reduce paper and plastic bag use. When they’re this small, you can stuff them anywhere. CHPT3 and Restrap have pulled together a collaboration, featuring CHPT3’s Devesa pattern, inspired by the bark of the trees in Girona. Restrap has completed the second run of polka dot edition bikepacking bags, including their Canister, Top Tube, and Saddle Pack. The entire range is fabricated with the use of CNC fabric and laser cutting, alongside Restrap’s new printing techniques for crisper patterns. For those wanting a little bit more room than a traditional saddle bag, but not wanting to go to a full-size saddle pack from their bikepacking equipment, check out Restrap’s new Saddle Pack. As far as innovative randonneuring bag designs without the need for a decalleur, I’d say Restrap is onto something here with their Rando Bag.

There have been a few examples of a complete water bottle and cage interface redesign over the years. UK-based Restrap throws their cap into the ring with these Mag bottles. They’re designed to work with standard bottle mounts, yet offer an easy-on, easy-off attachment thanks to magnets. These are especially helpful while using half frame bags. See more at Restrap.

It doesn’t take much to get my attention when it comes to camera straps. Never one to shy away from innovative design, I was pretty stoked to see the guys at Restrap develop a new “quick release” for neck and wrist lashes. Through utilizing magnets, their design makes swapping straps between your 35mm rangefinder to DSLR and vice versa, a cinch.
