Rapha at the UCI Worlds

There’s no denying the success of the recent UCI Worlds in Richmond, Virginia both in regards to the host city itself and the overall race. What an ending! For those looking for a more in-depth phototorial on the race, head over to Rapha for one of the best recaps I’ve seen…

Words and photos by Kevin Scott Batchelor

The last time I got the call to cover a Rapha Prestige event, I found myself wondering how any of the teams were going to handle the brutal course that had awaited them. More than 130 miles with 14,000 feet of climbing, on mixed terrain, with dizzying temperatures, sounded much more like a stage in the Vuelta than something my friends might ride. LA was a monster, complete with jagged teeth and scorching breath. With only a fraction of the teams finishing what was surely the hardest ride of their riding lives, this would be the last of the pro tour level parcours, right?

The Rapha Classic Sunglasses

I love it when Rapha does small projects like this. Especially when they’re made either in the UK or in the case of sunglasses, Italy. Mazzucchelli 1849 and Carl Zeiss Vision have created sunglasses for the luxury cycling brand and you know what? They look damn good. Check out more details below and see the full collection at Rapha.

Rapha: the Longest Day Trailer

Here’s an interesting concept from Rapha:

“Rapha asked some of its riders to ride from sunrise to sunset across the reaches of the world, from France to the United States to Japan. One film crew flew from point to point to document the rides and learned that no matter where a long ride takes place there are common elements that unite.”

From the looks of this trailer, one of those common elements are insane landscapes. I can’t wait to see the full-length.

More on Wiggo

You’ll have to excuse the dump of videos and photos for the Hour Record. I’ve been away from the internet for a few days…

Rapha Prestige Launceston

This looks amazing!

“As the sun set over Northern Tasmania’s Tamar Valley on Friday 13th March 2015, the Rapha Prestige Launceston began, with riders gathering on the deck of the Barrel Room Restaurant at Velo Wines. Teams huddled together, nervously discussing tactics and tyre/cog selections for the following day’s 170km adventure to the highest point of Tasmania’s only alpine region, the Ben Lomond National Park. Unbeknownst to the riders, just a week prior the summit had unseasonably received its first snow of the year. The brutality of the Tasmanian landscape and climate would be a defining feature of the weekend.”

Not that I needed another reason to go ride in Tasmania.

Reminder: Next Week is the Speedvagen Fit Tour!

Next week I’ll be embarking on a trip with Speedvagen as we cruise the Cali coast, stopping at key spots and fitting customers for the 2015 Speedvagen Fit Tour. Which, I might add, still has a few spots open. Sign up for a Speedvagen Fit today.

Even if you’re not going to get fit by Sacha, you can come hang in SF on May 2nd and Los Angeles on May 5th at a few choice locations. Our host shops are the Rapha Cycles Club in SF, Mission Workshop’s Valencia store and Golden Saddle Cyclery in Silverlake. There will be group rides leaving from these shops, with special parties at night. Come check out some Speedvagens and artwork from Chris McNally on display.

Rapha and Sir Bradley Wiggins

Rapha and Sir Bradley Wiggins

Bradley Wiggins is without a doubt, one of the most iconic modern cyclists and his sense of style is only exceeded by his athletic prowess on a bicycle. As one of the most important figures in British cycling, this Olympian and Tour de France winner is partnering with Rapha on a Wiggins-designed team kit. As the first step on this collaboration, Rapha will provide a full kit for the Wiggins team for their forthcoming season as they prepare for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Personally, I can’t think of a better partnering for Rapha and am excited to see what is to come.

Expect more information as events warrant.

Rapha’s New Pro Team Softshell Jacket

One thing is for certain: Rapha knows their outerwear and cold weather apparel. Every jacket I’ve owned of theirs has been top-notch, far exceeding my own expectations, especially when it comes to the wind, rain and cold. For 2015, Rapha has introduced their new Pro Team Softshell Jacket and it looks to uphold that aforementioned pedigree.

Rapha: Men and Women’s Brevet Jersey and Gilet

Originally designed to be used in the Paris-Brest-Paris Randonnée – a 1,200km unsupported race to be complete in less than 90 hours – the Rapha Brevet Jersey and gilet has become a staple in their lineup. Each year, a signature gilet compliments the Brevet jersey as a high-visibility accessory for when riding at dusk, dawn and at night. This year, Rapha’s take on high-vis leads them to high contrast stripes, with each gilet and jersey combination using various colors.

The Rapha Brevet Jersey and Gilet are in stock now for Men and Women at Rapha.

Baum Cycles: 2015 Rapha Tour Down Under Corretto Road

For the 2015 Tour Down Under, Baum Cycles cooked up something delicious for Rapha Australia. A titanium Corretto road with Campagnolo Super Record 11 and Lightweight wheels. Along with the signature Rapha color bands, the head badge has a unique inlay. The complete bike is sophisticated, yet sporty with one of the cleanest profiles I’ve seen from this pairing over the years. Personally, this is one of my favorite Baum and Rapha collaborations.
