A Santa Fe S24O: The Aspen Ranch Overnighter

Last weekend, John hopped on board for an overnighter in the Santa Fe National Forest with Adventure Bikepacking and the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society

Every month, Kevin Hinton’s Adventure Bikepacking brand hosts an overnighter in the Santa Fe area. Sometimes, it’s out to the Caja Del Rio, or Rowe Mesa, but in the summer months, we like to flee to higher elevations and cooler night temperatures.

Last weekend, our route left the iconic Santa Fe Railyard and headed to Aspen Ranch where the group spent the evening camping at 9200′ in an aspen grove.

The types of bikes and the bag setups ran the gamut, ranging from a vintage road bike with a basket to full suspension carbon mountain bikes. Kevin rode his Mone La Roca I documented a few weeks back.

This route is one I’ve enjoyed in the past but I switched up the route home, which included a Winsor singletrack bomb down to Chamisa for a leg-ripping climb up to Saddleback, Juan, and Dale Ball Central home.

If you’re in Santa Fe during the warmer months and want to get out on a tough but well worth it overnighter, this one’s for you!
