Ritchey Logic’s Garden City Track Bike Clears a 30 mm Tire

The Garden City isn’t Ritchey’s first track bike. We featured this stunning lugged 1975 Ritchey Track Bike earlier this year.

Onto the Garden City…

This is Fergus from Ritchey’s personal build, so you know it has polished Suntour Superbe Pro cranks!

Track Bike or Street Fixed Gear

Named after the San Jose track cycling team, the Garden City is an homage, meant to show gratitude for the community that nurtured Fergus from Ritchey’s love of track racing. It’s a bike meant to be ridden to the track and then raced, used as a winter training bike, or just thrashed around the street.

As such, it clears a 30 mm tire with the rear wheel slid back in the track end. You could, theoretically, ride to the track with your 23 mm tubular racing wheels strapped to your back and swap your gearing out.

Most importantly, Ritchey just wanted to offer a bomb-proof steel framed track bike with a carbon fork, bottle bosses, front and rear brake holes, with a geometry that’s perhaps more street-friendly than track-specific.

Geometry

Utilizing “parallel geometry,” or a seat and head angle that are the same, while nudging the numbers on the sizes small and medium to reduce toe overlap, the Garden City is slightly steeper than a 72º parallel road bike but not as steep as a 75 or 76º track bike. Ritchey really nailed the geometry here.
