The Athletic: Brian Vernor and Chris McNally Cyclocross Shirts

Man, I feel like this collaboration has been in the works for ages. Two of my favorite artists, working together for one rad brand, the Athletic.

“Brian Vernor and Chris McNally teamed up to make these fantastic t-shirts. This isn’t the first time that these two have teamed up together, but it is something that they have been talking about for a while.

Aaron Bradford and Vernor set out to make this one at Wilder Ranch in Santa Cruz. Just as Brian and McNally did with their other shirt at Townsley Tunnel.

These are the spaces we ride all year round on cross bikes. In the North Cal. it is always cyclocross season, the terrain dictates it.”

… and two rad kits!

Ty was up in Portland to race a Cross Crusades and hang out (that dude lives the dream) with the lovely couple behind the Athletic. Speaking of the Athletic, you’ve gotta pop over to see more photos from the event and of that killer kit. Seriously, sign me up for one!

The Athletic: LAX Airport Socks

Whether you’re a jet-setter or just a person who appreciates good design (and socks), the Athletic’s new LAX Airpot socks might be in your terminal. Scoop up a bundle of three socks here. Special note: this is a three-pack of socks, meaning you get three socks total. If you want three pairs, I’d order two sets. They’ve also re-upped the PDX socks too.

Here’s the reference for the design, in case you were wondering!

Clint Culpepper organizes plenty of races (top photo) and Jeremy’s write up of the Portland Design Works Omnium at The Athletic documents this successful event through the eyes, the lens and the words of someone who hasn’t been to a track race in years. There were hot dogs, rad track bikes, root beer kegs and cash payouts! Check out more at The Athletic!

Outside is Still Free Zine

Pearl Velo has some Outside is Free zines up in their web shop from NAHBS. Hey, it’s been a while but there’s plenty of inspiration inside these newsprinted pages to make you want to get out on your bike.

To further explain what #OutsideIsFree means, Jeremy at The Athletic has a great write-up on these zines and where it all started, so go check that out.

Scoop up an Outside is Free zine at Pearl Velo for $5.

The Athletic: Alchemy in Red Rocks

The Athletic is a relatively new site that’s still in its infancy but the curator is far from a new-jack. Jeremy Dunn, formally of Embrocation and currently Rapha has been working on a new publication that will take a slightly different look at the cycling world we live in. Mostly, he’s a really great narrator and the man can take a folder of photos and create a dialog. I know this because that’s how we covered the 2012 ATOC for the Rapha blog.

I hate to call ideas “projects” but he’s got some ambitious plans for 2013. Hopefully which will include some cross-pollination with PiNP. For now, head over to the Athletic and check out a story on the recently relocated Alchemy Bicycle Co. These ex-patriots of Austin have found themselves in Colorado, which appears to be the next Portland for frame builders.
