Dan posted this photo up on his Tumblr earlier today. It’s of the new Stanridge Speed prototype track frame. Adam and Dan worked together on what I would call a much more practical geometry. The early name for this prototype is the “Highstreet Compact”. We’ll see if that one sticks. Personally, I’m more into compact lines on a track bike, rather than a low pro and this bike looks like a beast. We’ll see how it performs tonight at the Red Hook Crit Navy Yard!

Manual for Speed: Dan Chabanov
Photos by Emiliano Bronado
Everyone has their pick for the Red Hook Crit Brooklyn Navy Yard tonight but Dan Chabanov is always my go-to guy. Why? Because he’s humble, yet confident, motivated and driven. He’s also living the dream of racing bikes in NYC. Check out the latest from Manual For Speed, a profile on Dan Chabanov right here!

Adam from Stanridge Speed has really won over the world of the track bike criteriums with his made in the USA race machine, the Highstreet. This Thursday, June 6th, head to Chrome’s NYC Hub to chat with Adam and drink some beer.
On a side note: Dan Chabs can wheelie? Lets see him do that when he smashes everyone yet again at Red Hook Crit Brooklyn Navy Yard. You guys don’t stand a chance!

Bern Sessions New York: Part 1 “Squid”
Bern has a new web series called “Sessions” out, focusing on one of my favorite people in NYC, Squid:
“Kevin “Squid’ Bolger, has been an NYC messenger for 20 years. He has been wearing Bern helmets for 9 years. A icon in the streets of NYC, he has seen the city and biking there change a ton. Squid was a pioneer helping to organize early alley cat races in NYC and pushing track bike racing with his velocity tour. Through earning his spot within urban bike culture he has used his fame and reach to help make cycling more safe and accessible to more people.
He has served as a Bicycle Ambassador for Transportation Alternatives and helped to educate working cyclists on how to ride safely. To us, Squid is family and a key member of our team. He was the first cyclist that backed our product and helped us push our image throughout the world. We are proud to present a window into Squid’s history, his life and his thoughts on cycling, helmets and NYC. For more info about Squid, check Cycle Hawk.”

Citybike Debuts in NYC
It’ll be interesting to see how well this system survives in NYC. Only time will tell.
“Memorial Day 2013 marked a milestone in NYC transportation history: the debut of the city’s bike-share system, Citi Bike. At 330 stations, 6,000 bikes (of a planned 10,000) were available to more than 13,000 members who signed up for a yearly pass – and many of them couldn’t wait to hit the streets!
The press conference at City Hall was a media frenzy. Hundreds of reporters and cameras were on hand to watch Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan ring in the launch. Streetfilms was there at this historic moment and put together this fun four-minute film which features a Citibike bike share station along a protected bike lane, David Byrne telling us what he will do with bike share and the best shot anyone got of Commissioner Sadik-Khan test driving the bike at City Hall.”

The Grime: G.O.A.T. Track Frame
Up in NYC, there’s something new about to hit the streets:
“True track geometry adapted for the street. The G.O.A.T. track frame is both nimble and responsive yet strong enough to be the frame of choice for NYC bike couriers and street racers alike. Greatest Of All Track.
Extremely short wheelbase keeps wheelies and maneuverability at an all time high. The geometry of the G.O.A.T. track borrows heavily from our favorite classic track frames of the late 1990s as well as our proven fgfs frames.”
These look really rad guys! See more at GRIME.

Rosko Knows…
Anytime a builder gets to ride, it’s a beautiful thing but anytime a builder gets to race one of their own bikes, it’s pretty fucking rad. Seth Rosko raced Single Speed-A-Palooza last weekend and NYC-area photographer GT Luke caught him ripping up his SS 650b rigid MTB.

Reportage
Emiliano Granado at the 2013 Red Hook Crit
By now, everyone’s already seen the media overload that came from the 2013 Red Hook Crit. In typical Manual for Speed fashion, but atypical media coverage, Emiliano Granado went into the RHC looking to catch riders off guard for some flash photography rider and spectator portraits.
Guest Galleries have become a new favorite section of the site and I’m always stoked to get some exposures from Emiliano. See more in the gallery!

This just in from Red Hook Crit:
“We are proud to release the 2013 Red Hook Criterium Brooklyn Alternate poster. Featuring paintings by local artists Wayne Mazzotta & John Gordon Gauld and designed by Jonah Birns. This poster pays respect to the rich maritime history of Red Hook and the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, the RHC’s waterfront location where the 2013 Championship Series presented by Rockstar Games will begin on March 30th, 2013.”
