The Kitsbow Merino Base Short

The Kitsbow Merino Base Short

While my favorite go-to bibs for MTB riding are the Giro New Road bib undershorts, my new favorite non-bibshorts are the Kitsbow Merino Base Shorts.

I wore them every day on the Oregon Outback and I’ve begun using them exclusively during short and sweet MTB rides. Because the main material is merino wool, they dry fast, feel soft, keep you cool in warm weather / warm in cold and don’t get super funky like synthetic blends tend to. They’re great for camping or touring as well, because they’ll dry faster than synthetic shorts.

All-City: Chevron Bibs and Jersey in Stock

Photos by Kyle Kelley

Male models have it tough. People throw a new kit on you, put a bike under your legs, and send you flying down a fire road. Sean from Team Dream has been known to turn a trick for money once and a while, although sometimes the trick turns him. At least I think that’s what happened on this All-City kit photoshoot gone bad.

Still, Kyle shot some great photos of him anyway – and they’re probably better this way! Head to All-City for specs on the Chevron bibs and Chevron jersey, in stock now through your local dealer.

POC + Ritte

SoCal-based, bad boyz / bad girlz of cycling, Ritte have teamed up with POC, one of the most unique cycling helmet and apparel companies to form a whole line of collaborative products. Coming soon are POC + Ritte gloves, bibs, jersey and yes, a scarf. The whole collection looks great and I can’t wait to see photos of the team wearing this line.

See more at POC and check your local dealer for availability. This release is slated for mid-April.

A Look at the 2014 Giro New Road Mens and Womens Collection

After the first year of Giro’s New Road line, a call was heard from the masses. Women wanted in on the line. Giro wanted it to be good though and rather than simply altering the current men’s lineup to fit women, they hired a female clothing designer and started from scratch.

For the 2014 Women’s New Road photoshoot, Giro picked a group of women ranging from a US National CX Champ, to a leader in advocacy and other figures in the industry. Their intent was to show a range of body types, personalities and styles to convey authenticity to women, and fits many styles. A female photographer, Michael Crook also shot the entire lookbook.

For the 2014 men’s line, not much changed as the classic pieces were established in the first season. However, the outerwear got a few new pieces including a wind vest and jacket, along with more layering options for brisk morning rides. All men’s photos were taken by Chris Milliman.

The 2014 Giro New Road line contains both casual and performance-minded pieces, for men and women, along with their California Collection: garments made by hand in California.

Eric Richter from Giro sent over a collection of photos from the lookbook, showcasing the men’s and women’s line, along with a few casual city riding shots. Check out more below and see the entire Giro New Road Men’s and Women’s line at your local bike shop or online.

Tenspeed Hero Women’s Bibs

There aren’t enough options for women in the cycling industry. It’s true. So when I see something like this, I have to share it. Developed by Tenspeed Hero’s sponsored racers (like Illinois state ‘cross champion Dani Smith), specifically for women, these bibs are just as technical as they are classic.

Team Dream and PiNP Kit Pre-Order

That’s a whole lotta’ photos!

Sean from Team Dream Bicycling Team and I have been scheming on this kit for some time now. Sure, it’s easy to take stripes and add some purple but how would it perform? Would the stripes make you faster? Would they throw-off your enemy’s range-tracking mechanisms? What about deer and bobcats? Would it scare them off the trails? The truth is, yes, the Team Dream and PiNP kit does all this and more. Oh and I gotta admit, they look fucking rad.

We went all out and produced one of the most comprehensive PiNP kits to date. I fucking love it! Sean loves it too, which prompted him to include a mystery “Surprise” PiNP long sleeve color option to the mix!

Team Dream Bicycling Team: Compression Bibs in Stock

Before 2013 comes to an end, Team Dream has restocked on a few pieces at their webshop, most notably, the Compression Bibs. These, for what it’s worth, are my favorite bibs I own. They’re a little tight the first time you wear them, but then they stretch out and fit like a glove. A glove around your junk.

Team Dream has XS, Medium and Large left in stock. So go swoop!

There is also a stock of Wind Vests, Home and Away jerseys too!

Rapha: AW13 Deep Winter

One thing I’ve always respected about Rapha is scouting the perfect locations to photograph their seasonal lookbooks. This is deep winter. I.e. the reason I live in Texas. It takes a special kind of human to want to venture out in conditions like this, so if you’re going to do it, make sure you’ve got the right gear….

Ornot: Cycling Gear Made in California

Ornot is a small, new label based in San Francisco. Founded by the belief that you shouldn’t have to spend a lot of money, only to look like a rolling billboard. All of their garments are made in California and are minimally-branded.

Check out the full Ornot line here. I will say one thing: kudos to them for developing a women’s line at the same time as a men’s line and making them the same design!

Also, damn, I miss riding in California already!
