King of Gravus / All-Road Invitational
Berliner Fahrradschau
Fri 18, March 2016 10:00 – 15:00

Think of the open road and endless horizon, dense forests with white ribbons of gravel road cutting through them, the mountains and flowing bands of single track. Your bike is your access to these unbeaten paths, discovering new worlds and setting the soul free. This is the spirit of the King of Gravus, an all-road invitational combining the adventure element of gravel biking with the excitement of enduro style stage racing.

King of Gravus is a non-timed 80 km ride around the southwest edge of Berlin with 4 different sectors aboard bicycles made for any road or trail. Eight groups of four riders will start five minutes apart with the Start/ Finish at the Berliner Fahrrad Schau in the heart of Berlin.

A Berlin Icon

If you have ever ridden around Berlin, no doubt you have passed by the grandstands and old Motor hotel from the infamous Avus circuit on the 115 motorway heading out towards the Gruenenwald. Constructed back in the early 1900’s, Avus (Automobile und Verkehrs Uebungs Platz) served not only as a motorway, the first of its kind in the world, connecting Berlin to Potsdam, but it was a racing and test track for many years, hosting a Formula 1 grand prix in 1955. Avus was also the venue for the bicycle and running events at the 1936 Olympics.
