Jamie from Firefly needed an off-road, speed machine for last monty’s D2R2 in the Boston area. What he came up with is one unique bird. But that’s Firefly‘s m.o. right? Clearance for bigger tires, a 42×28 mtb crankset and a 11-25 cassette make this road bike an ideal tool for tackling the 9,000’ of dirt elevation found in the 180k Deerfield Dirt-Road Randonnée. I think the size of the frame makes the proportions of the drivetrain work in this case. Personally, I’d rather have a compact front and a long cage derailleur in the back.
