So what’s cross like in Austin? Well, we haven’t had rain in over two months. Sure, we get little sprinkles, but not real rain. So that means we’ve got no grass and no mud. Then, the city won’t let you have races in their parks, so that pushes the events to the outlying areas. In the Dirt Derby‘s case, an active motocross course. So we’re looking at a big field of dirt and dust.

Not necessarily the ideal conditions for cross but then again, that’s the fun of the sport. Last night I headed out to the first week of the Dirt Derby series. All was going well until a front moved through, bringing high winds and rain. The derby turned into a dust bowl. But I did manage to get some photos.
