Beautiful Bicycle: My KHS Aero Track

IMG_5838.jpg

There are a few production track bikes that came out in the 90’s that are iconic. The KHS Aero Track series are just a few that come to mind. Whether it’s the low-pro models (steel or aluminum) or the curved seat tube Aero Track, these affordable bikes were mean race machines. I had a steel low-pro a few years back and always managed to pass up the curved seat tube version. Made from True Temper tubing and featuring a bi-oval top tube, these bikes have always been my favorite. That’s why when the opportunity came up to get one in my size, I didn’t pass on it this time.

I got the frameset with the original headset, cockpit and saddle. Rather than putting a traditional square taper crankset on it, I went with my favorite cranks, the Truvativ Omniums. From there, I put on some spare wheels, which I’ll be replacing later.

The fit is spot on for racing but I may put a shorter stem on it for the street. Since it’s a 58 square, it’s about as close as I get to fitting on a production bike. The only bike in my stable that fits me as per my bike fitting is my Merckx Pista and this bike by no means is replacing that! Once I get it set up to my liking, I’ll post an update.
