After spending close to a month in Tucson, I got a good handle on what the cycling community is like in that wonderful city. Well, in the winter anyway, summer is another story. One place I found myself stopping by frequently for events is Transit Cycles. With Spencer’s gallery being one of my favorite Shop Visits on this site, I didn’t feel it necessary to completely revisit Transit, photographically. While they did move to a new location since Spencer’s piece, many of the vignettes and textures are still relevant to Transit’s modus operandi. I did, however, feel compelled to check out their new space and hit some highlights, and as the title implies, to shoot the owner, Duncan’s, Black Cat All Road.
With Mo busy wrenching on a customer’s hardtail and Duncan helping customers spec out their cross-Europe tour, I rolled Duncan’s bike out to a quiet place in this ever-growing part of town.
Duncan knew Todd from Black Cat when he lived in Tuscon and when he decided it was time for a custom bike of his own, Duncan contacted Todd with what his ideal all road would entail. It’s not often I get to shoot a bike this size, and I could barely reach the pedals while attempting to beat the setting sun and fire off a handful of photos, literally snapping the last photo as the light left the area. I didn’t even have time to drop the chain down the cassette!
This all road has all the details of a NAHBS bike, yet this is standard practice for Todd. With a custom paint job done in-house, White Industries Cranks, Compass Tires, and a painted to match Silca pump, this bright purple and green bike is a show-stopper no matter where it’s on display. To see this bike, you don’t have to come to NAHBS, just swing through Transit and say hello to Mo and Duncan!
