Sven Cycles: Forager Cargo Bike Dec 2, 2015

After seeing Nils’ cargo bike roll out with a camp grill at a recent LA River Camp Coffee, suddenly the idea of utilizing a bike like that for over-the-top forest picnics has piqued my interest. Here’s Sven Cycles‘ take on that platform. Tested thoroughly over the course of a few months, this bike was designed and built specifically for a local chef and as you can see, is really capable of hauling everything you need for an afternoon meal in the woods.

Projects like this, especially when they come from the shop of a framebuilder, really make me happy!

  • Bonus points for the umbrella!!

    • Mog

Not an umbrella, it’s a folding shepherd’s crook! one of the things we were asked to fit to this bike for food foraging use rather than rounding up sheep.

  • Ace Metric Cycles

    bag set up is insane!

    Where’s the kitchen sink?

  • Very cool. So what kickstand is that? (Freddest question ever.)

    • Mog

It’s a Hebie, not sure which model, strong enough for the weight of the bike and load with nice wide feet for soft ground.

Considering context, it’s a pretty smart question. There’s not a lot for really heavily loaded bikes

The front wheel?!?!?! I’m guessing it works since they haven’t ditched it. This is amazing. I really like these projects. I’m a wrench so I don’t have much time for my own bike, but here’s my far less awesome adventure picnic bike.

      Its a Loopwheel !!

      • Shredzilla

They look like the year 2050.

Are those Axiom bags? What do you think? I’m looking into those.

      • Looks like it. I’ve had a set of the same ones shown here for years and have never had any problems with them. Design is pretty simple and they feel pretty secure.

      • Shredzilla

I agree they are simple and sturdy. They are also reliably water proof.

  • Nils-Erik Hilliard

This is really awesome!! Cooking outside inspiration

  • Good looking hauler plus awesome bag set-up by the talented folks at @RestrapLTD. Also not just a local chef but UK TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Believe the bike’s for his River Cottage show.

Tip top rig, that’ll make for some good fishing and chutney adventures. We stick grills and dutch ovens on our Bullitts and go to Sweden for a cook up now and then. Food and cycling make for pretty happy bed fellows…..
