Rob’s Schwinn Paramount Track Feb 2, 2010

While I was at Affinity today, I ran into Rob from Hold Fast. He was riding his recently re-acquired Schwinn Paramount; as locals may recall, it was stolen months ago and he was contacted a few weeks back by a guy who ‘saw it on the internet’ and reported it. Luckily it was in the same condition when he lost it; pristine. Crazy right? Well, I snapped a few shots of it to launch-off the new Category on Prolly is not Probably, Beautiful Bicycles (I was going to call it Bike Porn, but that can sometimes lead to malicious spam, etc).

Anyway, here’s his Paramount, all chromed out in all it’s beauty. Unfortunately, he had some non-period-correct pedals on it, so I couldn’t get the side shots. There are a few more photos below, so check them out!

Titan bars and stem.

Schwinn headbadge.

Reynolds 531 decal.

Mavic tubulars, MA2’s I think.

The original Schwinn Paramount decals.

That’s a period-correct chain tensioner. Neat huh?

  • Ted

    wow that is beautiful.

  • knarg

you didn’t take side shots because the pedals weren’t period-correct? wow.

  • Yes. Trust me. If you would have seen the pedal setup, you would have done the same…

  • jeff

Im guessing hold fasts on bmx pedals? :P

    if so, good call.

  • lukemc

Lemme guess, Odysseys and Hold Fasts?

    Prolly, you’ve started a disease!

  • ;-)

It’s his company! hahaha. He said all he wanted to do was ride his Paramount, but he had to test out a new pedal someone sent him.

  • Lazáro

Why didn’t you just remove the pedals?

  • Anticipation my friend. He’s got Con Denti pedals…

  • knarg

all this bike needs is a 650c aerospoke, some risers, and oury grips for mad barspinz brah

  • I’d rather see a full view without pedals. This is a tease.

Where’s the bar tape? I’m pretty sure that’s not period-correct.

  • thats fucking sick. i love paramounts. my first bike was a chromed out eddie merckx windsor pro. i loved it but pretended in my head it was a paramount.

  • what year is it?
this was my beauty…before i got hit on it..

  • Great piece of machinery, really hope to see the full bike shot.

  • MC_Bunns

I have one that looks just like this, except mine has red pin stripes not blue. The one I own is a 1972. That stem doesn’t look period correct btw haha

  • Titan / Cinelli and 3TTT stems were used on track bikes throughout the 70’s

  • Rob

    Pics came out great!

For those who are interested, it’s a P-14 from 1967, fully Nervex-lugged. The bars/stem are also from ’67 (stem is stamped). Apparently, this was the last year Campy had the 151 bcd cranks, which this bike has (not that you can see them in the pics).

Thanks for all the comments everybody. Hopefully soon we’ll get together for more pics (I promise to include the pista con denti pedals next time).

    Isn’t the MA2 a clincher rim?
