1988 Seoul Olympic Games Oct 30, 2009

Jussi over at Fixed Gear Blog posted a link to NZTony’s Flickr set of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games track events.

There are some prime cuts in this one. Amazing time-trial bikes in the age when the UCI hadn’t banned pursuit bikes, including these Corsa-Record equipped carbon fiber East German pursuits.

Tony does a great job narrating each image.

Lutz Hesslich (East Germany) starting his sprint to catch Nikolai Kovche (Russia) in the Mens Sprint Final at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul South Korea.

Hisslich won 2 – 0.

Great set. Thanks for sharing Jussi and Tony, amazing photos!

Hey those photos are really awesome, thanks for bringing them up.

  • I got an email from Tony:

    Hello Prolly,

Thanks for linking my photos to your Blog and your nice comments about my commentaries. I wrote the information on the back of the photos back in 1988, so when I scanned these photos earlier this year I was able to transcribe the details with confidence, rather then relying on my memory!

I am also very genuinely surprised by the amount of interest these photos are generating. I almost didn’t scan most of these photos as I thought they would be far too boring, but I scanned them and added them to Flickr just so I would have a good back up copy of them.

    Thanks again and best regards
