2012 Texas Toast Jam Progress

Sure, it may look like a bunch of dudes, standing around, looking at some plywood but those are the most capable ramp builders west of the Mississippi. The crew is already cracking away at the 2012 Texas Toast Jam course. With the dirt already getting shaped and the ramps underway, you can expect it to be bigger and better than last year. I’ve seen the sketches for some of the course and its insanity.

Last week I swung by to see the guys. While I was checking in on their progress, I shot some photos with the Hasselblad. Check ’em out! And if you missed out on my photos from last year, see them here and my Recent Roll photos here.

Odyssey BMX Texas Toast Jam Day 02 Recon

Man, what a weekend. Yesterday was the final day of the Odyssey BMX Texas Toast Jam and like Saturday, the heat and wind didn’t stop people from throwing down and having a great time. When I made it out to the spot, it was just in time for the Empire Curved Wallride. Then everyone just kicked it around and warmed up on the dirt. It was a much more relaxed vibe but people threw down when it came to the dirt comp. Seeing this caliber of riding in person was intense and I’ve only got the most respect for these guys.

Check out my final slideshow from this event below. There are some good ones in there so don’t miss ’em!

Odyssey BMX Texas Toast Jam Day 01 – Gauntlet of Death!

Man, what a day. I was at the Odyssey BMX Texas Toast Jam from noon until 7pm today shooting photos, chatting with riders and just hanging out. While the rail jam, dirt and bunny hop contests were awesome, my favorite course of the day was the GAUNTLET OF DEATH! Ryan did an incredible job building out the course, under Taj’s supervision and it was hilarious how difficult of a time even the top pros had getting through it.

Here are a few choice shots with a slideshow below!

Frying the Texas Toast Jam in the Sun

Frying the Texas Toast Jam in the Sun

It is already in the 90’s here in Austin. This makes any outdoor activities physically draining. Without the constant retreat to shade trees to chug water, you’d fry out there. With the Odyssey Texas Toast event approaching here in Austin, I’ve been checking in every day on the progress over on 5th street where the dirt jumps are being set up. Yesterday, I just so happened to catch some local rippers tearing it up and managed to grab some photos of the course’s progress.

ESPN: Texas Toast Jam Preview

ESPN met up with Taj at the OTX compound to discuss this weekend’s Texas Toast event here in Austin. This is the only time in recent months that I literally wish I could be in two places at once. I’ll be in Milwaukee at the #MWM2, which will deliver on very different levels. This shit looks like it’s going to be a blast!

The one and only Taj Mihelich is putting together a major competition next week here in Austin. With a $10,000 prize purse, the Odyssey Texas Toast is going to be pulling in pros of all ages from all over. If you’re around, head down there and if you shoot any photos, email them to me and I’ll post them up. I’d be there but I’m going to be at #MWM2.

Just check out that line-up of confirmed pros!

Prolly is Not Probably’s Year in Review

Well, I hope you all had a great New Year. I’m assuming most of you are back to work now and probably have some time to kill today during your lunch break so I invite you to check out a year in review. 2011 brought about a lot of traveling for me and like the increase in frequent flier miles, the site’s content continues to rack up. International, cross-continental and bi-coastal travels brought me to shops, events and in front of Beautiful Bicycles.

Darryl Nau is one rare bird. When I lived in Brooklyn, he’d come cruising through the Peel Sessions on his 40 lb BMX blasting wallrides and pulling crazy lines. For the past 5 months, he was here in Austin and for some unknown reason, he and I never linked up except for at the Texas Toast event. Dude’s seriously one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet in the cycling industry. Period. Check out this bike check, shot on 9th Street for Props BMX on his new FBM!
