2018 NAHBS: Royal H Cycles Classic Road

No matter how high tech the road bike gets, nothing beats the lines and elegance of a classic road bike. For this year’s NAHBS, Bryan of Royal H Cycles brought this beautifully-lugged road bike with equal parts practicality to functionality. At first, I didn’t even notice the Di2…

I couldn’t stop looking at this bike at the show. Such great lines that brought me back to my early riding days. I too totally missed the Di2 until you mentioned it!

  • The geometry of this frame is perfect. The colour is perfect. Would love to see it built up with more polished components. bikes like these only prove that a lugged steel frame is timelessly beautiful, no matter how it’s built up.

The black/grey components allow the green to dominate the aesthetic.

      • In these photos. In normal life, I think this colour would be well complimented by either. I prefer polished. It’s all subjective though.

Here’s a pic from the show floor. You’ll see how the headset, seatpost and hubs provide that timeless chrome look and balance the dark gruppo. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/02b54bc3b65693a895dfbc11677adf9f583a99e8cb378db992c13ee51fbbc132.jpg

  • So good!!!

  • This is what I mean when I say I love bikes. And your first and last sentences hit the nail right on the head. Thanks for a beautiful photo set.

Wow now that’s a bike. The quill stem lives!

    • Steel frames, threaded forks and quill stems aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I’ll never understand why more builders don’t mask their dropouts before paint. It’s going to scratch! Abusage. Tools not Jewels… I’ll get over it.
