Search and State: S2-R Performance Bib Shorts Feb 2, 2016

Search and State’s S1-S riding bib shorts are still some of my favorite bibs. With a few tweaks, their newest piece of apparel will not disappoint. The S2-R performance bib is cut from the same fabric as the S1-S riding bib, but with a new, still comfortable chamois, longer shoulder straps, a reshaped mid section and an improved leg elastic pattern. The S2-R bib is still made in New York City and is in stock now at Search and State.

Did they finally get rid of the SAS Camel Toe™ ?

I’m also curious about this. I love the sound of them, but the ‘modesty concerns’ are holding me back.

The chamois is a new proprietary chamois that is a change from the S1-S. The S2R will not replace the S1-S but is a second option for those wanting a less substantial chamois, altered external chamois aesthetic and some reshaping. The S2R is currently available in black and navy with a third option on the way. The S1-S going forward will be black only.

        I’ll take that as a yes :)

I’m in. I love everything about my S1-S bibs (well, except for the “external chamois aesthetic”). They’re the ones I always pick for a long, hard ride.

    • Mario

What do you pick for a short right?

      • Carson

You mean a short ride? I have a couple pairs of first gen Rapha bibs that I still like a lot. Also a pair of Castelli Free Aeros that are great quality, but a little tight in the crotch. The S+S bib is the way to go. I also have a couple of their jerseys, which are first-rate Very low-profile, but I like that. The rain jacket is also superb.

The S1-S are my absolute nicest bibs. I love them so much, they are super comfortable and just feel so much more quality than anything else. This being said, I’ll probably pick up these new ones sometime later this year!

  • At 6′ 4″ I’ve found the classic rapha bibs to have the most comfortable shoulder straps and a snug fit in size M. Any other tall gangly dudes try these new SAS bibs on? The new longer shoulder straps sound good to me, but the fit guide on their site suggests XL if you are over 6′ 1″ and L or M if your waste is 32. Loose shorts VS. straps that feel like resistance bands. Life is a series of tradeoffs.

I’m 6′ 3″ 32 waist and wear a L in both Rapha Pro Team and SAS S1-S….the SAS L fits snugly everywhere except the lower back/mid-section area, although I think that’s how they are designed to fit. They are extremely comfortable….sounds like the new ones will have an even snugger fit.

Justin, where are you located? If you are near one of our dealers stop by and try them on. The fit guide, while helpful, does not always adequately encompass the intricacies of next to skin fit. If you don’t have a dealer nearby, feel free to order from our site and take advantage of our included return/exchange card. Thanks.
