Chapman Cycles: Darren’s Fendered Commuter Oct 15, 2014

Chapman_Cycles_Commuter

Yesterday, we took a look inside the workspace of Brian from Chapman Cycles and today, I see this gorgeous fendered commuter up on the Chapman Flickr. There are so many beautiful details on this frame, that you’ll have to go see them for yourself.

  • Mike

Chapman has always built the coolest stuff.

wth is going on with those brakes?

    • ABW

You gotta get more specific with the question. They’re amazing, old school Dura Ace center pulls. Like many similar brakes, modeled after Mafacs. A pretty classic component choice. Does that answer your question?

      • boomforeal

i think they’ve been hacked though? never seen a set mounted like that before

        • ABW

I’m still not seeing it – and I’m not being a smartass. Many center pulls could mount to either braze-ons (like these) or to the same bosses but mounted to an aluminum bracket that bolted to the fork crown or brake bridge. You can see a similar thing with Paul Racer’s and the Speedvagen bikes. You can buy Racers that bolt to the fork crown or brake bridge, or a framebuilder can do like Speedvagen and braze the bosses directly to the frame. The latter is cleaner, simpler, and probably stronger.

i’ve never seen a set of centre pull dr’s not mounted to a bridge before

There definitely is a sweet “hack” with that Paul spring set-up on them though!

            aha!
