This is a great photo and there are many more at Ichicoblog’s Flickr. Also, much love for the White Industries VBC cranks. Those are the best!

what is the point of disc brakes on a road bike that doesn’t have clearance for fenders or hi-vol tires?

    • ridemagnetic

Braking performance with full carbon rims has never really been all that stellar, terrible in some cases even today, and you’re not grinding away $1700 worth of rims every time you apply the brakes.

Personally, I don’t want fender eyelets or any clearance bigger than a 28c on my road bikes because they’re road bikes. Randonneur, light tourer, “gravel whatever”, etc sure. I like clearances tight and the bike to be zippy. Not some Fred’s commuter geo.

Grant Peterson sheds a single tear.

guess my northwest bias is showing: around here, owning a road bike without clearance for fenders is tantamount to admitting you don’t ride it; owning a road bike with disc brakes and no fenders makes you look like a fred who got up-saled by a crafty bikesalesman

but ridemagnetic’s comment suggests a likley answer: the disc tabs were a smart addition by the framebuilder to guard against eventual poor spec decisions ;)

I just like that she’s riding a rad bike. It’s strange to me for people to critique other’s builds, rather than encourage them. But whatever people gotta appear to be snarky I guess :-/

Agreed, I’d cry if I had discs but no way to mount at least a 32c. Actually, 30c is IMO the perfect tire size for road (esp. tubeless) but essentially no one makes it.

    Stunning!

I think it looks like a great bike! I’d love to ride with some of these folks in Japan, they look fun & nice! Plus that guy takes great photos!

    Love the cap!

  • Dylan Buffington

That is one nicely put together bike. It can be hard for someone smaller to have a bike that not only performs well given their weight, but also aesthetically looks open and light rather than cramped. Also that wheel set looks stunning. Top notch stuff.

  • Garrett Kautz

That unicrown fork looks really elegant. I know a lot of folks prefer cast crowns on road bikes, but this is good.

  • FireFly

    Nice FIREFLIES cap.

this bike is undeniably awesome…but a part of me can’t help but wonder what it would look like with a nemesis/WI wheelset instead…
