“Chrome Industries announces the live screening of its first short film this Friday, December 13th at noon west coast time. Chrome will temporarily take over its website for the screening from 12:00 to 12:30 pm. The Chrome Crew worked with Portland natives Kamp Grizzly to document Massan Fluker taking his track bike and Chrome’s new Barrage Rolltop to the hills and bridges of Portland. The final 3 minute short includes some of the best riding Portland has to offer including an epic decent of Burnside at +40 mph. Set your phone alarms for noon this Friday to catch the live screening. Spread the word.”

Alfred for the Winged Store

Alfred was one of the first bike messengers I saw in action in NYC that made me realize some people were born to ride a track bike. He’s fast and flows two steps ahead of traffic in any situation. Put him in the mix to race Monster Track and he’ll surprise you.

Dan Barham for Acre: Wander

Acre, a subdivision of Mission Workshop, went on a maiden journey earlier this year. Brenton Salo at the Dirty Doubles Pumpish Track Race

Reportage

Brenton Salo at the Dirty Doubles Pumpish Track Race

Portland’s Amanda Sundvor knows how to throw a party almost as much as she knows how to throw a race. Especially an outdoor race. In the middle of winter. In Portland! I think it’s amazing that people actually showed up, threw down $5 and raced around a freezing cold pump track and had a blast doing it. If anything, it’s a testament to how people just want to get rad year round. That’s a race party!

When I found out about the event (sorry I forgot to post the flier), I asked Brenton Salo to get out and shoot some photos. At this point, Brenton is like my Portland connection when it comes to events. If you see that man around town, buy him a coffee or a glass of whiskey!

Shinola: The Wright Brothers’ Limited Edition Watches and Runwell City Bike

Being from North Carolina, you don’t have to tell me about the Wright brothers’ legacy. First in Flight! Here’s a little-known factoid though: the Wright brothers actually owned a bike shop in their day. So seeing this homage to them coming from Shinola isn’t at all surprising. Back then, the bicycle was the way of life, before the auto took over…

“Shinola introduces The Wright Brothers™ Limited Edition Runwell bicycle, created to honor the Wrights’ incredible contribution to America’s history of innovation and industry. Few urban bikes are better looking, smoother riding and easier shifting than our classically-styled Runwell with its 11-speed internal hub and disc brakes. Our 25 Limited Edition The Wright Brothers™ Runwell marries the enduring style and predictable handling of our American-made lugged steel frame and fork with a gloss black finish, sleek bamboo fenders, and a Torpedo battery operated headlamp. The Wright Brothers™

Limited Edition Bicycle will be available for purchase on Shinola.com, and at the Shinola flagship stores in Detroit and New York City, on December 10th, 2013.”

Well, I didn’t but the man interviewed in this documentary probably did if you’ve ever had one stolen in DC. I wasn’t going to post this at first, but it’ll be worth the watch!
