Luke’s Surgery Benefit Alleycat

A few weeks ago, on June 2nd, the Austin cycling community came together to help out a local racer and bike messenger named Luke, who had broken his wrist in a crash while racing. Beat the Clock Cycling Club threw one of the biggest alleycats I’ve been to here in Texas to raise money to cover his medical bills (yay America!). Local businesses like Flat Track Coffee, The Liberty and Cycleast showed their support and people from all over Texas showed up on a sunny Sunday afternoon to RACE…

Check out some narrated photos in the Gallery!

Tools of the trade:
Mamiya 7ii / 80mm
Kodak Portra 400

I notice you don’t use the Portra 400 in your T4. Any reason why? It’s the only film I’ve used for my T4 and it seems to work fine.

35mm grain with Portra is a bit too chunky for my liking. I like the grain with Pro400H more with 35mm. Also, I use Portra 400 on the Mamiya because they still make 220 film, which gives you 20 exposures, rather than 10 with 120.

Photo #9, is there a tube coming out of his neck??

    • kaseyirl

sure looks like it, huh? gets out of hospital and then crashes into a van. time to consider user error! ;)

Also time to consider some things don’t need to be pointed out or commented on. I’m sure you’ve made some mistakes before and point out other’s just makes you look bad.

        • kaseyirl

certainly! though I was hoping my smiley face would show I was only busting balls in a lighthearted sort of way. definitely glad he’s okay

Smilies are great. It’s just kinda crummy to kick someone while they’re down, ya know? ;-) <—- see what I did there?

All I have to say is respect for the dude with the tubes coming out of his neck. When was the last time you went and had a good time RIGHT AFTER being discharged from the hospital in order to help a fellow biker facing a similar plight? It is awesome to see people banding together to make sure someone they care about is being taken care of in the necessary way. I’m still paying off the bills from my bicycle crash after over two years. I don’t know what it is like in TX, but in MN they WILL arrest you for outstanding medical debt due to the fact that institutions can SUE individuals over unpaid medical expenses. And that leads me to: WTF is up with this g’damn country?
