New York, NY- May 28, 2013 – Trimble Racing and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation are proud to announce the 2013 Red Hook Criterium Brooklyn Navy Yard, presented by Rockstar Games, onSaturday, June 8, 2013.

The Red Hook Criterium and presenting sponsor Rockstar Games welcome co-sponsors Citibike, B&G Electrical Contractors, Widow Jane and Cacao Prieto and is proud to continue with support from Giro Sport Design, Castelli Cycling, Cinelli, Timbuk2, R&A Cycles, hatchMAP, Movers Not Shakers! and Selle San Marco.

The RHC is an urban race series consisting of a track bike criterium and a 5K foot race. The criterium features world-class road racers, track specialists, bike messengers and urban cyclists competing multiple laps around a short and technical circuit. Fixed-gear track bikes are mandatory, requiring riders to possess street-tuned handling skills and high levels of fitness. The 5K is held on the same circuit and in the same spirit and features a field of elite and amateur runners.

Traditionally held in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and Milan, Italy, the RHC moves into the Brooklyn Navy Yard for the first time for round two of the Red Hook Criterium Championship Series, presented by Rockstar Games. This spectator-friendly race will feature athletes from around the world fighting for championship points and a chance to enter the history books as the first winner of the Red Hook Criterium Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Bringing the RHC into the Brooklyn Navy Yard is a dream come true. The circuit is fast, technical, and in reference to the original crit features a section of cobblestones. The backdrop with ships, cranes, old factories, new architecture and the New York skyline peering from across the water is spectacular, “ said race founder David Trimble. “Many Brooklyn residents regularly pass the Brooklyn Navy Yard without setting foot inside. I’m honored that the RHC is opening the door for the public to see incredible things happening here.”

“The RHC presents a historic opportunity for the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation to share its commitment to working with community partners in support of sustainability, highlighting alternative modes of transportation and creating an opportunity for unique access” said Andrew H. Kimball, President & CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. “Through BLDG 92 – the Yard’s exhibition and visitor center – spectators and athletes can learn more about the free exhibit, regular public hours, workforce development services and community partnerships, like the one we share with the RHC.”

The event is free for spectators. Qualifying heats start at 6 p.m., the 5K at 9 p.m. and the criterium at 9:45 p.m. A spectator area at the start/finish line will offer fans an exclusive view of the racing action. A limited number of tickets will be sold to benefit the new Athlete Support program, launched to provide additional support to the top 25 riders in the championship standings.

“These competitors are the reason thousands of people come to watch. They are not hyped up pros with million dollar contracts, rather emerging athletes who will spend their last penny attempting to build a career out of racing,” said David Trimble. “As the Red Hook Criterium grows, we aim to share our success with the athletes putting on the show.”
