CornFed 3 Dec 10, 2012

Hell yes. The Indianapolis guys behind Corn Fed are back with their third installment. Lots of traffic bombing, red light blasting and good old fashioned fun on bikes (in the city). It’s a bit long but it totally worth the watch.

Running red lights, riding on sidewalks, cutting cars off, etc, really not cool.  This video is stupid, these riders are stupid.

Just as bad as the losers in spandex that think central park is their race track…. it isn’t.

Bridges (I live in NYC) are also not a race track.  Racing should be done…wait for it… on a race track.

Cyclist racing around like this are no different than when taxis, truckers and regular drivers speed, run lights, make illegal turns and in general operate their vehicles unsafely with blatant disregard for those around them.

Yes, a cyclist and his/her bike weigh far less than an automobile.  Doesn’t mean a cyclist speeding can’t seriously injure or even kill a pedestrian.  Plus a cyclist weaving in and out of traffic, running a light, could very easily cause an accident between a car and another car or a car and a pedestrian.

      Aw dad.

And they were smoking reefer. These boys will never do anything with their lives.

I HAVE NO AFFILIATION WITH THESE GUYS BUT I SINCERELY THINK, HAVING READ THROUGH YOUR COMMENT THOROUGHLY, THAT YOU ARE STUPID.
FOR ONE, AMONGST THE SUPERFLUOUS NUMBER OF VIDEOS HIGHLIGHTING URBAN RIDING, THIS IS UNDENIABLY ONE OF THE FINEST YET. IF YOU CONSIDER THAT THE TERM “RACING” WAS NEVER ONCE USED HERE, THEN YOUR WHINING IS FRIVOLOUS, UNNECESSARY, AND FULL OF ITSELF. EVERY CITY, INCLUDING MINE (NYC TO THE FULLEST) PRESENTS AN ARRANGEMENT OF OBSTACLES THAT ARE OBSTACLES PRECISELY BECAUSE THEY WERE NEVER CREATED WITH THE PATH OR SAFETY OF A BICYCLE IN MIND. HENCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE EQUALLY REPROACHABLE AND RISKY BIKE LANE. WHICH MUCH LIKE YOURSELF IS A BLIND SIGHTED CONSERVATIVE WAY OF PUTTING BOUNDARIES UPON THE UNEXPECTED. THAT IS, BECAUSE URBAN PLANNING OFTEN DOES NOT TAKE BICYCLING INTO ACCOUNT AS A SUSTAINABLE METHOD OF TRANSPORTATION, ONE OF TWO THINGS MUST HAPPEN: EITHER A GROUP OF WELL REFINED AND INNOVATIVE RIDERS WILL REDEFINE THE TRAJECTORY AND STYLE OF RIDING SO AS TO MANUEVER THROUGH THE GAPS LEFT UNSEEN BY PEOPLE LIKE YOU (AND THIS IS NOT CALLED RACING IN CASE YOUD LIKE TO RECONSIDER WHAT YOU SAY, OR ELSE THEY DEVELOP A RESTRICTED EVOLUTIONLESS “FOLLOW THE LINES TO THE TRACK” SORT OF STYLE THAT ONLY REPUBLICANS AND RAGDOLLS LIKE YOU ENJOY. so fuck off

Why the hell do you endorse this kind of reckless riding?

    • http://theradavist.com John Watson

      The world is too safe.

      • Sebastian Stevenson

So endorsing cyclists making the world a more dangerous place is cool, then. Sorry for missing the point.

        • http://theradavist.com John Watson

          I think you’re taking this a little too serious…

          • Sebastian Stevenson

Prolly is an opinionated website and that’s why we all like it. But you have a comment section for people to express their opinion too. So here I am expressing my too serious opinion about what I consider not acceptable.
I will continue to take respect and safety towards other road users seriously in the future, but I promise I won’t rant every time.

          • http://theradavist.com John Watson

            I totally understand.

          • Sebastian Stevenson

             Situation defused.

          • http://twitter.com/likeyourmother jon john

So why not speak out against this type of reckless riding?

If drivers/long boarders/runners were being as reckless, you’d probably, I think, be opposed to it.

I’m sure there are times where you’re safely riding and some jerk runner or driver is getting too close to you, cutting you off or runs a light when you have the right away.

Don’t be a hypocrite.  Riding is fun enough and dangerous enough without this type of juvenile bs.

          • http://theradavist.com John Watson

I respect your opinion but it doesn’t mean I have to act on it. You should go tell people to stop jaywalking too!

In fairness to John, this blog was never supposed to be a model of behavior for impressionable children. Riding in traffic is an art form that requires incredible skill and calculated risk. We’re all adults and take responsibility for our riding styles. To each his own, and props anyone who can ride like these guys.

          • http://twitter.com/likeyourmother jon john

This has nothing to do with impressionable children as children tend not to ride track bikes let alone in traffic.

Unfortunately there are plenty of impressionable adults that think such behavior is acceptable.  Reckless riders are just as idiotic as reckless drivers.  Plus, as a community, I believe we should not be hypocrites.  We very quickly call out drivers and pedestrians who operate unsafely, putting our lives and the loves of others in danger.  Lets point the finger inwards when its called for.  This is just that time.

What if John posted a video of a bunch of people having fun stealing bikes? Would you have a problem with that?

          • http://www.facebook.com/johnscottharris Scott Harris

Well that’s just like, your opinion, man. We get it.

     ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I enjoyed it.

  • http://twitter.com/MrAlfordM Mark Alford

For the record….no one was hurt and no property was damaged. We did not have any issues with cops and pedestrians; only just a couple of frightened drivers. It was fun to film and people should ride at their own risk and skill set/level.

There are quite a few riders featured in this video that are doing very much with their skills as progressing cyclists. Riding for fun in traffic does not make them unprofessional on the track in any way. Many of them actually heavily promote safety first. Considering most of you do not personally know any of these people, and you are judging their riding skill based on a video that was specifically crafted to show riders having fun and riding vigorously and freely through the streets they feel most comfortable, makes you look very closed minded and as said above, “too serious” on the topic. This video, and any video like it, does not represent cycling as a whole as a reckless sport. It is just an exciting video… and any cyclist, serious or not, who bases there personal riding technique off videos they see on the internet and not on what they prefer, or whats safe as far and their comfortability level goes, is either an ignorant person with no individuality, or someone who probably does not enjoy the sport as much as the title of riding a track back in the city. it is both useless and ridiculous to try and “correct” the act of riding for fun in the city. Theres nothing to fix. its just an attempt to take all the freedom and fun out of a sport.
