Royal H Cycles: Mike’s White Cross Bike Feb 2, 2011

Last week when I put up the Reader’s Rides entry, Bryan from Royal H. Cycles posted this gorgeous cross bike photos to his blog. Since I couldn’t figure out how to get the images off the funky slideshow he had set up, he hit me off with Eric Baumann‘s photos. Man, what a great bike for this week’s weather. It seems like almost all of the country is under a white layer of powdery snow. I bet everyone’s wishing they had a nice snow machine like this!

Now that’s one slick cross bike. I love the wishbone seat stays and the lug carving. Check out more photos of this bike at the Royal H. Flickr. Man, I wish Icarus and Royal H. Cycles were going to be at the NAHBS. Maybe next year?

    wheres the knobbies??

i had bryan design this from my position on my landshark road bike but using a set of 28mm paris-roubaix tubulars. i wanted room for knobby cross tubulars as long as we were starting from scratch. started out with phil wood 130 disc road hubs as they were the only one available but decided on 135 spacing so a 29’r mtn bike wheel will fit in with a knobby as i had no desire to build up another phil wheelset. it should be a magic carpet ride with those big tubies. the disc brakes put it over the top.

word on the 135. did you consider 132 like Surly gnot-rite? love the “magic carpet ride” of cross-fatties …
