Brotures “Fixed/Free” Platon Hub Jan 25, 2011

Brotures’ new “fixed / free” Platon Hub sports a mighty simple mechanism to switch effortlessly from fixed to free wheel riding. While these hubs look complicated as hell in photos, their usability is pretty simple, as demonstrated here. Check out more info at Jah-Life and the Vimeo page. Anyone got photos?

Edit: I caught this the other day and scheduled it to post this afternoon and now Zlog has a post up with photos so go check them out!

    2 questions:

    1) Why?

    2) Why would you install it on a bike with no brake?

I have the same question as above…

Are they promoting free wheel riding without brakes?

Is that not like recommending suicide?

And I have to join in with B. Davis: Why?

From what I could decipher from the Jah Life page, it looks like they’re going to run around $320? Correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t read Japanese…

    This is amazingly cool.

    I need one of these!

Tryin’ to get all Danny MacKaskill up in this bitch

Why? Because it’s a bajillion times easier than flipping your entire wheel around.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say they’re obviously not promoting riding freewheel brakeless. They were excited about their product, filmed a video the first time it worked, it happened not to have a brake on it, it’s not like he’s bombing hills or something.

Cool video, cool product, let’s see if it holds up well.
