FOSS Russia: EFT Environmentally Friendly Tubes Mar 26, 2010

All meme-jokes aside about Russia, sometimes good things come out of that place. Check out FOSS tubes. Environmentally-sustainable bicycle inner-tubes made from recycled materials. Yeah, sure. You’re thinking “what makes them so special? Sounds like some hippie shit“. The FOSS system allows you to repair a hole in the tube by simply heating it with a lighter and pinching the melted material back onto itself.

Pretty clever. Check out this instructional “how to” section on FOSS’ site. The tubes are available from 20″ up to 700c. Now if we can just get these in the States.

Edit: I just noticed there’s an English version of the site. Check it out here.

Thanks to Vassili for the heads up!

wouldn’t trust these in a south carolina summer. you can cook an egg on the sidewalk. literally.

hmm. well, you can cook an egg on the sidewalk when the sidewalk’s at, what, 200F? i don’t think it’ll turn out to be a problem since a lighter normally burns at 1977c according to wikianswers.
